Jose Manuel Ruiz Motos "Bandolero" / Spain

Undeniably one of Spain´s top Flamenco percussionists, Bandolero started his career from a very young age accompanying great dance figures such as Antonio Canales, Joaquín Cortés, Joaquin Grilo, Javier Barón, Manuela Vargas, Merche Esmeralda, Sara Baras, Farru and Jose Maya. He has played and performed regularly with artists such as Enrique Morente, Tomatito, Vicente Amigo, Pepe Habichuela, Enrique de Melchor, Estrellla Morente, Diego el Cigala and Montse Cortes amongst many others. He was the founder, alongside Ramón Porrina, of “Echegaray”, the world´s first Flamenco percussion group that published in 2002 the album “Calle Echegaray”. Throughout his career he has also collaborated with many musicians from other styles including artists such as Antonio Serrano, Chano Domínguez, Jorge Pardo, Tino di Geraldo, Javier Colina, Larry Coryell, Carles Benavent, Rubem Dantas, Dave Holand, Pat Metheney, La Barbería del Sur, Ketama and Ñiña Pastori. Some of his most important recording collaborations have been for Enrique Morente on the albums Omega, Lorca, Pequeño Reloj, Sueña la Alhambra, and also on his last studio album, Pablo of Malaga where Bandolero was Assistant Artistic Producer.

Why LAROSA?

La Rosa Percussion, for me, has been able to bring together all the elements needed to create a truly balanced sound, full of nuances, and in the form of instruments that can be integrated into any musical style. Their cajons are are comfortable to play and deliver an amazing sound experience. I define myself at this moment in my playing by trying to be at the service of the music that I am accompanying, which I think is the purpose of the percussion as an instrument, to enhance the music that is being played, also incorporating different colors to the arrangement. I like to combine the cajon with different sound textures in the percussion set.
